Description

Second album from Devin Daniel with The Village. This modern jazz record is entirely composed of original pieces by Devin and performed by a quartet of young West Coast stars: Logan Kane on bass, Myles Martin on drums, and Javier Santiago on keyboards. Logan was present on Devin's first release with The Village, Trio Expeditions. Myles regularly collaborates with him and is a staple of Los Angeles rhythm sections. Javier and Devin met while studying at the Herbie Hancock Institute at UCLA. Right after graduating, Devin toured with Herbie Hancock and found himself the youngest musician to perform on legendary stages like the Hollywood Bowl and Walt Disney Hall. Together, the quartet explores grooves, odd time signatures, post-bop blues, and synthetic ambient textures, pushing their limits with a sense of freedom and urgency. The first single, "Particle," features an arrangement by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, performed by a string quartet, adding a unique chamber music touch.
