Denison Witmer returns with a vibrant and thoughtful new collection of ten folk-pop songs, recorded and produced by longtime friend and collaborator Sufjan Stevens. On Anything At All, Denison is in a reflective mood, mining sublime revelations from an ordinary, domestic life. Recorded sporadically over a two-year period, Anything At All was mostly created in Sufjan’s studio in the Catskills during the pandemic. Contributors include Sufjan Stevens and Andy Park, as well as Sam Evian, Hannah Cohen, Sean Lane, and Keenan O’Meara, among others. The album’s musical aesthetic marries Denison’s folk-and-Mennonite vibe with Sufjan’s signature arrangements: lush strings and woodwinds, a female choir, and, on occasion, jazzy saxophone sneak around Denison’s spare voice and acoustic guitar. These are simple folk songs dotted with bursts of awe and wonder. Pressed on translucent green vinyl.
