The album's name comes from Dr. John's lyrics "Walk on Guilded Splinters," where Steve misinterpreted the phrase "Tit Alberta" as "Till I Burn Up." This track, and Dr. John's album "Gris-Gris," guided the artist's mindset; he has always strived to make an original statement with each of his recordings. The confidence Steve needed to create "Till I Burn Up" could also be self-inspired. Now, nearly ten years into his career, Steve is a cult artist of his time who has been called upon to record with his heroes (Paul Simon, Kanye West) and contribute significantly to modern masterpieces by his contemporaries (Amen Dunes, Freedom), all while recording and releasing his own critically acclaimed works and sharing the stage with Tame Impala, Mac DeMarco, Growlers, and others.
