"Negativity" marks the fifth album in DEER TICK's discography, and the successor to the acclaimed "Divine Providence." "Negativity" represents a giant leap forward in the band's discography. Recorded earlier this year in Portland, Oregon, with legendary musician/producer STEVE BERLIN (Los Lobos, The Blasters), this album is the most personal work of its frontman JOHN MCCAULEY. From the brilliant baroque pop of "The Dream's In The Ditch" to the sensational "Trash" in the purest Memphis style, "Negativity" builds a stylistic bridge between boozy punk, AM gold, bar and blues, country soul, while retaining their deeply American rock'n'roll. Even though DEER TICK has been glorified for their raucous parties and substance-fueled fervor, "Negativity" exposes their more nuanced and tender side on the ballads "Hey Doll" and "In Our Time," a timeless country song that features a vocal duet with a close friend of MCCAULEY, singer/songwriter VANESSA CARLTON.
