The valley is now recognized as an ecosystem with its own beauty and wonders, though not without its dangers. This landscape is a perfect reference point for the flamboyant L.A. rock band Death Valley Girls, whose particular blend of garage punk, proto-metal, and communal music drapes an air of occult mystery and white-hot energy over an underlying celebration of life and vitality. Their 2020 album *Under the Spell of Joy* was the clearest distillation of the band's mission—to create a sound that is both tumultuous and transcendental, overflowing with positivity even as it navigates between dark melodies and boisterous riffs. That said, the lineup felt fully accomplished the moment they first took the stage. Their 2014 debut album, *Street Venom*, only received modest distribution on a small cassette run, but the songs were so infectious that they continue to be staples of the band's live set. For the first time, *Street Venom* is getting its due with a deluxe edition crafted by the Suicide Squeeze Records label. Death Valley Girls began when singer, guitarist, and organist Bonnie Bloomgarden moved to Los Angeles to get off drugs. Thinking that playing music would be a positive distraction, she sought out potential bandmates and was eventually introduced to Hole drummer Patty Schemel and her guitarist brother Larry. Bassist Rachel Orosco joined the band shortly thereafter. Before any concerts, Death Valley Girls spent two days at Station House Studios in Echo Park with producer Mark Rains to lay down the nine tracks of *Street Venom*. The deliciously dirty guitars and righteous chorus of opening track \"No Reason\" immediately set the album's tone. There's undeniable bravery in tracks like \"Arrow\" and \"Shadow,\" a sensual allure to songs like \"Get Home\" and \"Paradise Blues,\" and an invigorating electric spirit on \"Girlfriend\" that sounds more like the work of an accomplished, road-hardened band than the debut of a bunch of outsiders. Adorned with two tracks from the long-out-of-print 45 RPM single \"Electric High \/ Gettin' Hard,\" this deluxe edition of *Street Venom* captures the beginnings of one of L.A.'s most exciting and inspiring underground rock bands, while enhancing the sound quality with a new mix and remaster.","brand":"Death Valley Girls","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55311980691800,"sku":null,"price":20210806.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0803238018119.jpg?v=1760407424","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/death-valley-girls_street-venom-vinyle-translucide-splatter-jaune-rouge_2021_mdl","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
