Oh Brother, the new album from the band Dawes, formed by brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith in Los Angeles in 2009, marks a new chapter for the Californian rock group – a chapter that is both introspective and accessible, while retaining the sincerity that is so important to them. Oh Brother resolutely points Dawes toward the future, honoring the 15-year musical relationship between Taylor and Griffin, as well as the new era of their band. Each of the nine songs began with Taylor on guitar and vocals and Griffin on drums. At this point in the Goldsmiths' career, Dawes has established itself as one of the most heartfelt and serious musical groups around. It's a band that can seamlessly shift from folk rock to piano ballads and sprawling jams, all while retaining an immediately recognizable sound and breaking free from expectations.
