The artist was born on the Isle of Man and is now based in Chicago For his debut at Mascot, the singer-songwriter and roots guitarist Davy Knowles boldly moves forward with timeless writing. The production is modern and sleek with a lyrical guitar approach, inspired by soul, folk, rock, and blues. The 12-song album is equally influenced by The Black Keys, Fantastic Negrito, Gary Clark Jr., as well as Muddy Waters, Junior Kimbrough, and R.L. Burnside. Produced by Eric Corne (John Mayall, Joe Walsh, Joe Bonamassa), "What Happens Next" somewhat departs from Knowles' enthusiastic and respectful vision of blues and Americana, with poetic writing and an emotionally charged voice. The body of 12 songs offers an album experience winding through muscular riffs, a jazzy blues ballad, and vintage soul before concluding with one of Knowles' most personal songs released to date. Throughout the album, his guitar playing is brilliantly understated, his rhythmic work is skillful and dynamic. The record opens with "Light Of The Moon," a brash riff-rocker filled with vibey 60s organ flourishes, catchy choruses, and infused with soul.
