Ranked as the 6th "greatest guitarist of all time" by Rolling Stone and the "greatest guitarist of all time" by Fender, he returns after a nine-year absence with a new album, "Luck and Strange," his fifth studio album. The album was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, renowned for their work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman. Most of the lyrics were written by Polly Samson, Gilmour's collaborator for thirty years. Samson says of the themes explored on "Luck and Strange": "It's written from the perspective of age; mortality is a constant." The album includes eight new tracks as well as a beautiful cover of "Between Two Points" by the Montgolfier Brothers.
