Hidden treasures

Description

In 1969, after having recorded a few 45s under his name, including "Death of a Clown" (1967), guitarist and singer Dave Davies considered releasing a solo album. A way to show that he was not just Ray Davies' younger brother, the leader and main songwriter of the British group The Kinks. An album that never saw the light of day and is reconstructed, from working documents, in the compilation "Hidden Treasures". Most of the thirteen songs apparently planned were found on a Kinks album or Dave Davies singles, and "Hidden Treasures" presents three previously unreleased tracks. To complete this collection, the label Sanctuary Records added fourteen songs by Dave Davies. Again, with two or three unreleased tracks or different versions. The whole constitutes a valuable collection of tracks dated from 1967 to 1969, ranging from raging rock to folk, from psychedelic excursions to blues winks. Dave Davies would release his first true solo album in 1980, "AFL1-3603", in an effective power pop vein but less exciting than these treasures.
