The new album, Silver Age by Daniil Trifonov, recorded with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra, recalls a time when Russian composers, poets, artists, playwrights, and stars were among the most original. It illustrates the boldness and artistic brilliance of a pivotal time in the country's history with works by three of its most important composers: the Piano Concerto in F-sharp minor op.20 by Scriabin, the Piano Concerto No.2 in G minor op.16 by Prokofiev, and the Three Movements from Petrushka by Stravinsky. The tracklist also includes Stravinsky's Serenade and excerpts from the piano version of the Firebird by the composer, as well as Prokofiev's Sarcasms op.17, the Piano Sonata No.8 in B-flat major op.84, and the "Gavotte" from Cinderella op.95 No.2. Daniil Trifonov's musical selection reflects the inventive variety of this brief but explosive cultural moment.
