Drum Thing

Description

There are 30 years ago I published for the Galerie Frémeaux & Associés an album of 6 large lithographs created by Daniel Humair and titled "Scratch Bop and Paper." I have always heard in the strokes of the narrative abstraction of Daniel's painting the fundamentals of his sticks on the skins and seen in the flat areas, the sometimes long harmonics of the cymbals.
From the supporting instrument, framing, Daniel detaches himself to become the humble conductor who arranges the most creative configurations and leads the wind players into a trance. Our master drummer illustrates the phrase by Charles Cros "A record is 3 minutes of silence to decorate." Because Daniel has no qualms about decorating this "Drum Thing" in which his companions, the formidable soloists Vincent Lê Quang and Yoann Loustalot (invited by the trio), can act on the rhythmic setting offered to them by a masterful Stéphane Kerecki and one of the greatest drummers in the world of jazz.
