For the third consecutive year, Sony Classical is releasing the New Year's Concert, which more than 3 million viewers will be able to see and hear on television on January 1st starting at 11 a.m. Each year, the number of countries in which the program is broadcast, either live or delayed, changes, and this year more than 72 countries are expected, which should total over 45 million listeners and viewers around the globe. The 2014 New Year's Concert will this year be conducted by maestro Daniel Barenboim, who has not been seen at the helm of the New Year's Concert since 2009. The Israeli-Argentinian conductor has been overflowing with musical activities around the world for decades. He does not count his efforts towards younger generations, to whom he shares his incredible experience, both as a pianist (one of the greatest of our time) and as a conductor. He was the musical director of the Orchestre de Paris from 1975 to 1989. A Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor since 2011, he multiplies his generous intentions to promote peace in the Middle East. He is also, since 2011, the musical director of the very prestigious Scala di Milano. The 2014 edition of the New Year's Concert will not deviate from tradition and will feature the famous waltzes of the Strauss dynasty; this year too, the concert will include its share of musical surprises, which are announced to number nine! And which delight everyone and attract the curiosity of a vast audience uninitiated in classical music. Finally, it is one of the best orchestras in the world, the Vienna Philharmonic, that dedicates the event and elevates the genre of waltz and "light" music to the rank of the most beautiful pages of music in general.
