Affetti amorosi

Description

With Affetti amorosi, Damien Guillon offers us a dazzling bouquet of vocal pieces, composed between 1615 and 1630, at a time when Girolamo Frescobaldi had become a cult composer in Rome. This recording is rich in contrasts as it sings of both human and divine love, and the countertenor Damien Guillon is joined for this by other vocal talents of the Banquet Céleste: soprano Céline Scheen, tenor Thomas Hobbs, and bass Benoît Arnould. Two of Frescobaldi's particularly moving spiritual sonnets, Maddalena alla croce and Ohimè che fur, and then OCarta Amorosa, the love letter, are the most appreciated vocal forms of the early Baroque. The voices are accompanied by the lute, harp, cello, and harpsichord, played by the members of the Banquet Céleste.
