Let It Shine

Description

As a dedication to walkmans and cassette tapes rewound with a crystal pen, their first album revolved around a 90's funk-hip hop axis. This album, widely broadcast on the airwaves (Radio Nova, FIP, Couleur 3, France Inter, RFI, BBC 6,...), allowed them to perform on stage at Nuits Sonores, Nuits Zebrées Nova, Radiomeuh Festival, Woodstower, Festival de Marne, Hortus Live,... The musical exercise was delightful, but with the Lyonnais Da Break, inspirations and desires unfolded like a magnetic tape coming out of its housing. So, for this second album, shattering the barriers they had set for themselves became the logical next step. Taking the spontaneity of rhythms, guitars, and keyboards as the guiding thread, they let themselves be carried away into jazz, broken beat, soul, or disco. They left no door closed, mixing atmospheres and styles to bring Let It Shine to life. The deliberately homemade production aimed to retain the original sensations, with a sound tuned to more modern frequencies when the tone of the track called for it, and it was essential that things were done with minimal machine input. No resorting to sampling: when hip hop embeds its sharp beats, the band switches to loop mode by itself. In the darkness of a New York street or on the seat of a low rider with G-Funk grooves, taming the rumbling bass of a Jamaican riddim or wrapping its sensuality around a martial breakbeat, each track sees Hawa impose her versatile feminine light on the microphone. She brings the final touch and infuses the necessary emotion to embody her stories of human relationships. These tales of everyday life, whether individual or collective, are summed up in a handful of simple words or tangled in inextricable knots. With a now broadened musical spectrum, Da Break explores and exploits it in great depth. They jolt the groove as much as they refine it, flattering and polishing it to better punctuate it. And track after track, they make all the musical facets of Let It Shine shine.
