Description

Crimi is a matter of soulful overflowing, a certain idea of groove seeping through, like the porous raï productions influenced by everything or the sticky funk of New Orleans, without erasing the less high-octane, more melancholic passages. Crimi is above all a personal story, that of a child who grew up in Lyon whose Sicilian grandmother hummed age-old tunes. Saxophonist and singer Julien Lesuisse cultivates this path in a formula he likes to call Sicilian soul. That's why we won't be surprised to hear oriental modes here, a vocal lyricism that refers to his familiarity with the Oranian scene with Mazalda. Crimi is also a desire to revive tradition through original songs, well-crafted melodies, carried by a band sound that defies categorization. Everyone is in tune with this traditional-modern soundtrack, both highly codified and very free. Crimi is now "Luci e guai," the first album to be released by Airfono in March 2021. "Lights and Troubles," this title has programmatic value, as if to say that nothing is ever as simple as it seems, in words as in music. In other words, the perfect framework to connect all the threads that weave the complexity of a personality, from jazz to chanson, from the day before yesterday to tomorrow, from here as from elsewhere.
