They then delved deeper into their previously established sound, applying the heavy atmospheres and melancholy of their old band to smoothed-out rhythmic grids and guitar lines, drawing inspiration from both EBM and AOR. The duo's name, CMON, is taken from a world music section called \"Confusing Mix of Nations,\" which perfectly summed up the band, with Josh born in New York, partly raised in Brussels with parents from the Caribbean, and Jamen, who is half Taiwanese and from Miami. The resulting album, *Confusing Mix Of Nations*, was recorded in various small, unprofessional studios in LA and entirely produced by Josh da Costa. Each track is like a postcard from an aesthetic territory worth exploring. \"Coo\" recalls the groove of Drugdealer (a band in which Josh plays drums) or Mild High Club. \"Peter Pan\" boasts as if it were about to meet the B-side of The Clash's *Sandinista!* in its verses, before a new romantic sparkle shines in the chorus. The pop enthusiasm on \"Good To Know\" gives the impression that the duo could ignite a festival crowd before a strange ache settles in the middle of the song. Above all, it's a collection of songs that dares you to dance. An album with pop ambition, where \"pop\" should be understood as a state of mind.
