In an age when everything is designed to weaken and strike down the individual, ‘Black Flame Eternal’ is an album that represents strength, empowerment, and outright defiance. With increasing pressure to engage in the tribalism of modern society, CLOAK in their third album summon a spiritual rebellion that exists beyond good and evil.
While CLOAK rail against societal convention, the Atlanta-based quartet embrace heavy metal’s rebellious traditions. From summoning the chaotic spirit of Swedish black metal spearheads such as Watain and Dissection, to imbibing the deep, dark, and sensual groove of Danzig, or evoking the raw speed and energy of Motörhead, the influence of metal's founding fathers is deeply ingrained in CLOAK’s DNA. The band’s charm, however, lies not merely in its inclination for the past but rather how each of these genres has contributed to forge CLOAK’s profound personal identity.
And with ‘Black Flame Eternal,’ it continues to strengthen a unique and well-established sonic personality.
For fans of WATAIN, DISSECTION, BEHEMOTH, ROTTING CHRIST.
