To celebrate YOUTH's 10th anniversary, Citizen and Run For Cover Records have teamed up to dust off the band's debut album. Since its initial release in 2013, the songs that comprise Youth’s tracklist have gone on to become staples of mixtapes, playlists, and compilations for diggers searching for what feels like a long-lost sentiment in alternative music. YOUTH takes the tempo of grunge, the hazy reverb of shoegaze, and the catharsis of emo, and wrings them into something deeply personal and profound. Songs like album opener “Roam the Room” and “The Summer” have soundtracked thousands of mosh pits live, while pensive, moody tracks like “Figure You Out” and “Sleep” offer brief downtempo breaks with blissful melodies. YOUTH also contains Citizen’s two most popular songs. “The Night I Drove Alone” starts from an isolated guitar to explode mid-song into an onslaught of music, while “How Does It Feel?” incorporates dreamy shoegaze elements into a mid-tempo wall of somber sound. New additions to the vinyl include a die-cut jacket, a new interpretation of the album’s classic floral artwork by artist Mike Adams. There’s also a printed inner sleeve, period-specific photos, lyrics, and new liner notes. This updated version of Citizen’s debut pays homage to a landmark record for the band and recontextualizes it within their constantly evolving discography. Pressed on orange vinyl.
