Description

A recognized figure on the Chicago music scene, Circuit des Yeux (Haley Fohr in civilian life) has joined the Matador label for her sixth album. *–io* is her most accomplished work to date, with her compositions nestling Fohr’s voice (which can span four octaves) at the heart of an ensemble of twenty-four musicians playing strings, brass, and woodwinds. The album, recorded in the fall of 2020 by Cooper Crain and mixed by Marta Salogni (Bjork, Holly Herndon) with Fohr as arranger and producer, was written in the wake of a personal loss and recorded in the midst of a pandemic. In this sense, *–io* charts a geography of grief – a place where "everything ends all the time."
