The second album by Çigdem Aslan "A Thousand Cranes" is the hypnotic suite of 1920s songs from Smyrna and Istanbul that were found on her first album.
With "A Thousand Cranes," Çigdem begins her migration through ages and borders to continue her journey as an explorer of songs from Athens, the Balkans, and Southeastern Anatolia.
Remaining true to this lyrical journey, this second album was recorded at AntArt, one of the historic studios in Athens, where Theodorakis and Hadjidakis recorded their most famous compositions. Çigdem's group, composed of world-class musicians, once again under the direction of musical director Nikolaos Baimpas, accompanies this journey with a modern style and a clear sound, embellishing the deep roots of these melodies with modern jazzy influences and inspired improvisations.
The songs on this album, with romance and nostalgia, languidly evoke a time when cultures, languages, and ethnicities collide to create music that seeps into our bones, with joy and tragedy intertwined.
