Description

Christophe Rousset and his Talens Lyriques transport us to the stage of the Royal Academy of Music where, in 1748, Pygmalion, a ballet act by Jean-Philippe Rameau inspired by an episode from Ovid's Metamorphoses, was created. Love, sensitive to Pygmalion's despair of loving a statue, animates the sculpted woman who immediately falls in love with her creator. Very suggestive, the music of this tender and whimsical ballet unfolds the grace of 18th-century dances. In the manner of Love in Ovid, Christophe Rousset breathes life into this score, one of Rameau's greatest successes in his time, and offers us, thanks to his sense of drama and impeccable conducting, an essential new interpretation of this ballet.
