After "Délicieux" or "L'Esprit de famille", composer Christophe Julien once again teams up with director Éric Besnard for his new film inspired by Victor Hugo's masterpiece 'Les Misérables'. For Jean Valjean, the composer made a surprising choice: a musical color evoking the western, deliberately at odds with the character. At the heart of this stripped-down writing, the bass clarinet stands out as the film's signature instrument, supported by a tight string ensemble and by innovative electronic textures created especially for the score. Percussion reinforces tension and anxiety, while the mandolin and solo harp bring a resonance of the past.
