La 10th Symphony of Schubert completed by Berio! Just before his death in 1828 at the age of 31, Franz Schubert was working on his 10th Symphony in D major D936a which was destined to become yet another unfinished work. Only sketches remain. Berio's ingenious work, "Rendering," brings this draft of Schubert to life by creating a new work around and within the framework of the unfinished symphony. Schubert's last symphony, the 9th, was completed in 1825-1826 and represented the end of a long struggle to produce a great symphony. It is a remarkable race rhythmically punctuated by tiny filigree motifs that multiply and conclude, which Schumann described as "celestial length."
