After almost 20 years of working as a trio and many cross-collaborations in different configurations, Ideologic Organ presents Placelessness, the debut album from Chris Abrahams, Oren Ambarchi and Robbie Avenaim, featuring two longform works at the borderlands of ambient music, minimalism, experimentalism and improvisation, and machine music. Chris Abrahams, Oren Ambarchi and Robbie Avenaim are, respectively, amongst the most remarkable and innovative figures on Australia’s thriving experimental music scene. With Chris on piano, Oren on guitar, and Robbie on drums, the album’s two sides build on each artist’s consistent devotion to longform composition. Easily describable as a maximalist take on minimalism, Placelessness is a masterstroke of contemporary real-time composition. Drawing on the decades of solo and collaborative practice of Chris Abrahams, Oren Ambarchi, and Robbie Avenaim, and the culmination of almost two decades of working as a trio, the two pieces – Placelessness I and Placelessness II – take shape with a stunning sense of effort and grace, not shying away from explicit beauty or rigorous tension within their forms.
