Brahms's Gypsy music, virtuosity and eternal dance! While Brahms's famous Hungarian Dances, inspired by Gypsy music, are fairly well known, his contribution to the choral repertoire in the same field remains relatively unknown to the general public. And yet... The composer wrote several works dedicated to this music of popular origin, very much in vogue in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Gildas Pungier's challenge? To bring together, confront, and create a dialogue between Gypsy music and the Brahms pieces inspired by it. More than a juxtaposition, the aim was to create a continuous musical discourse, seeking a fusion between the different musics and aesthetics, thanks to an orchestration work carried out by the choir director, as if a chamber choir and its pianist happened to meet a trio of Gypsy musicians and began to play together, at the crossroads of written music and improvised music.
