The pleasant kiss of the morning sun sets the tone for ambient master Chihei Hatakeyama’s brand new project, an epic two-volume collaboration with one of Japan’s most inventive drummers, Shun Ishiwaka. Here the duo are joined by Hatis Noit (Erased Tapes) whose ethereal vocals transport us to the lush musical plains of the Cocteau Twins.From his debut album “Minima Moralia” (“Excellent” 8.1 Pitchfork) in 2006, to the 70+ albums that have followed, Chihei Hatakeyama has created a powerful catalogue of work.Having collaborated with musicians such as Ai Kuwabara, Hiroki Chiba, Kei Matsumaru, Gen Hoshino, Terumasa Hino, Tony Allen, and countless others, Shun Ishiwaka is one of Japan's most prolific modern jazz drummers.Between them, they have played in ambient, experimental, electronic, pop, hip-hop, jazz, and metal projects, and that is what this new album represents: the coming together of like-minded musicians with innumerable reference points, who come together at a decisive moment to produce a work of ambient music overflowing with creativity and understanding.They met during a live radio broadcast. This encounter was extended by a series of concerts. The chemistry was instantaneous, and the recording sessions for this two-volume epic followed in March 2023.
