Lights

Description

Cheap Riot is back with a four-track EP recorded, mixed, and produced in the depths of the 12th arrondissement, hidden away and nurtured in their own studio by their friend Paul Rannaud (Volage, Marietta). The four part-time Parisian punks indulged in the joys of chiaroscuro musical collage. 'Cardiac Arrest' and 'Lester James' heavily feature English post-punk, cold and tense like The Fall or Gang Of Four, with razor-sharp guitars and disillusioned vocals. With 'Sat' Night Punks,' which unfurls a triumphant power-pop in the grand tradition of The Nerves or The Heartbreakers, we find a glimmer of light. 'Lights' meanwhile revives the reggae-punk ghosts initiated by The Clash. The band demonstrates the breadth of their playground here, without losing sight of the concise and precise violence of the punk rock from their first album. This patchwork idea is even reflected on the cover art, where the band's artistic inspirations intersect with guilty pleasures and situationist subversions. A very DIY cover reminiscent of Television Personalities or old punk fanzines like Sniffin Glue. 45T vinyl version.
