"Love Isn't Easy" is an intimate journey carried by luminous grooves and sincere arrangements, where Charlie Winston skillfully explores love in all its forms — the love we share, the love we build, and above all, the love we learn to give to ourselves.
This album tells a love story. Not an ephemeral romance, but a profound relationship that develops slowly. It marks the beginning, middle, and potential end of two people's story. But it also speaks of self-love. After all, isn't that where the quality of all personal relationships is measured?
This album reveals Charlie Winston in his natural element: that of a bandleader. After more than two years on the road, he returned to the studio to write his 6th album. Surrounded by François Lasserre, Louis Sommer, and Noé Benita, Charlie gives as much importance to his band's contribution as to his own artistic expression. In a collective setting, his musicality, emotion, and humor burst forth with evident spontaneity. His band acts as a true extension of himself.
Finally, we find the same artist/producer relationship here as on his first album, Hobo (2009). On that album, Mark Plati captured Charlie in his most authentic light as a solo artist and bandleader, imposing little of his external opinion on the artistic vision. However, this reunion would not have been possible without Emil Wilk from the band MILK, also a co-producer. In 2024, Charlie went to Copenhagen to Emil's studio to co-write three songs for the album. It was during these sessions that Emil suggested Charlie work with Mark again, simply stating that Hobo is his best-produced record. Charlie immediately accepted the idea, proposing that Emil also be part of it — thus the production team was born.
In "Love Isn't Easy," his new album, a constant lightness permeates the rhythms and grooves, while profound lyrics delicately explore the highs and lows of what is undoubtedly the most essential aspect of existence: our relationship with ourselves and with others.
This title is a kind of aphorism, like an unfinished sentence that says love isn't easy, but it's worth it.
