Celestial Season was originally a death/doom metal band. After releasing their debut album in 1992, the Dutch band developed a violin-laden, romantic sound that partially reflected (but mostly coincided with) the classic Peaceville sound (My Dying Bride, Anathema, Paradise Lost, etc.). After releasing two classic gothic/death/doom metal albums ("Forever Scarlet Passion"-1993 and "Solar Lovers"-1995), Celestial Season abruptly moved to a more stoner rock-oriented sound, abandoning their original doom metal sound for half a decade before breaking up in 2001.
In 2011, Celestial Season surprisingly regrouped with a mix of the doom-era lineups. Fans had to wait until 2020 for "The Secret Teachings" to be released, marking their return to their original "sad and slow" doom sound. In 2022, a new Celestial Season album was released. "Mysterium I" was a continuation of the classic, gloomy doom sound of the 1990s, and now we are treated to another delight with "Mysterium II". This new album picks up the style of "I", but with even more tear-jerking string sections, gloomy piano lines, and slow doom compositions, full of dark despair and melancholic beauty!
