Cecilia Bartoli takes the road to Russia to pay tribute to three great empresses who were friends of the arts: Anna Ivanovna (1730-40), Elizabeth Petrovna (Elizabeth I, 1741-1762) and Catherine II ('The Great', 1762-1796), as well as the court composers who followed them to Saint Petersburg. The result is a captivating selection of eleven opera excerpts in their world premiere recording. Cecilia Bartoli put together the program for this album after researching the archives of the Mariinsky Theatre.
