To mark its 50th anniversary, the album has been remixed and remastered by David Hefti. Cat Stevens achieved success in 1967 with his first two albums, Matthew & Son and New Masters. However, he ceased all musical activity after contracting tuberculosis. In 1970, following his recovery, he signed a new contract with Island Records and released Mona Bone Jakon. With producer Paul Samwell-Smith (formerly of the Yardbirds), they developed the warm, acoustic sound that would achieve global recognition and relaunch the artist's career. The album includes the hits 'Lady D'Arbanville', 'I Wish, I Wish', and 'Maybe You're Right'.
