New version of 'Torn Arteries', the seventh studio album by the band.Fierce and uncompromising in their execution, Carcass's ability to intricately dissect the entrails of death metal and show them to us so we can understand them sonically has been their point of excellence for over three decades. In December 2019, the band released their first single in over 5 years, 'Under The Scalpel Blade', followed by a 4-song EP titled 'Despicable' (October 2020), creating a powerful precedent for the full 2021 album: "Torn Arteries".With the album title itself referencing an old demo created by original drummer Ken Owen in the 80s, 'Torn Arteries' presents itself as a bookend on the modern side of Carcass's discography, connecting directly to where it all began over 30 years ago.The recording and production of 'Torn Arteries' was not as simple as sitting down for a few weeks and tearing it all apart, but rather spanned about a year, going back and forth between England and Sweden. Initially, drummer Daniel Wilding worked in Sweden at Studio Grondahl with David Castillo while the guitars were recorded at Stationhouse with James Atkinson in Leeds, England. Eventually needing a form of residential location to finalize vocals, bass, and other guitar work, the band returned to Studio Grondahl in Sweden to continue working in a very relaxed atmosphere with Castillo. "There wasn't really a grand plan to proceed this way, the process simply developed organically," explains Walker.Most will find that the only real struggle when indulging in 'Torn Arteries' is fighting the urge to start it over the second it ends. It opens up substantial new ground for a band with such a reputation, while retaining that addictive and honored Carcass sound that has become the face of true death metal.
