Caravan & The New Symphonia

Description

In October 1973, Caravan, accompanied by the New Symphonia Orchestra conducted by Martyn Ford, performed at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London to promote their new album, "For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night". Although the concert was recorded, only a single LP was released. Here, for the first time on vinyl, the complete Caravan & The New Symphonia concert is gathered on a double LP.For those who still consider prog a taboo word, Caravan remains a mystery. What a shame! They are missing out on some of the sweetest and most captivating melodies of 1970s rock. Formed, like Soft Machine, from the Wilde Flowers, Caravan shares many commonalities with British prog of the 1970s: pun-filled titles, gatefold sleeves, tracks often exceeding 10 minutes, frequent lineup changes... But the band has always retained a natural accessibility, notably thanks to the melodious and pleasant singing of guitarist and vocalist Julian "Pye" Hastings. After a first album on MGM in 1968, Caravan signed with Decca and released their album, "If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You". The title track became a hit in 1970, earning them an appearance on the show Top of the Pops. The rest of the album illustrates the variety of the band's styles and includes the fan-favorite track "For Richard".The following three years on Decca saw the release of some of their most popular albums, including "In the Land of Grey and Pink".
