Pizzica indiavolata

Pizzica Indiavolata is already the seventeenth album of the ensemble Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino. An almost-historical status for this group that has been carrying the tradition of the Pizzica dance, the tarantella of Salento, since 1975. Today, six young virtuoso musicians and a mischievous dancer, led by Mauro Durante, guide us towards an emotion, that of the time when these rhythms were linked to a Dionysian possession rite. Few musicians manage to combine the wild essence of this music with flawless musicality. However, in Pizzica Indiavolata, traditional instruments coexist with technological innovation and the roots spirit reaches out to meticulous modernity. Without losing any of its sensuality, without ever ceasing to lead towards trance, the devilish pizzica sometimes gives way to the melodic sweetness of a few noble love songs. We will also note the presence of the Malian master of the kora, Ballaké Sissoko, on three tracks and the sublime singing of Piers Faccini on a track for which he also wrote the lyrics.
