Lemp had always envisioned these sessions: like a dream of experimentation among liberated minds to which he would dedicate all his time. He teamed up with Thomas Wydler (drummer and longest-serving member of Nick Cave \u0026amp; The Bad Seeds) and his studio partner Ingu Krauss (engineer at Conny Plank's studio between 1987 and 2001) to form a triumvirate that quickly gained notoriety and saw the greatest and most talented musicians pass through its doors. In the first volume alone, we find Kid Congo Powers, Swiss jazz pianist Stefan Rusconi, Jochen Arbeit (Einstürzende Neubauten\/Automat), Gemma Ray, Toby Dammit (Iggy Pop\/Nick Cave), André Vida, Toni Kater, Charly Birkenhauer, Paul Kuchenbuch, and Matthew Styles.Built during the Nazi era, the former Tempelhof Airport building houses the Candy Bomber studios - its facade can even be seen on the album cover. During the Berlin blockade in 1948\/49, over 200,000 flights were chartered from this airport by the Allies to supply the city. The airport was decommissioned in 2008.The airlift - nicknamed 'candy bomber' by Berliners - also gave its name to the studio. With this space at their disposal, Lemp, Krauss, and Wydler established an organic environment, free from external pressure and organizational constraints. The final result is uninhibited sonic art - a broad cocktail of originality, intensity, beauty, sincerity, and an incredibly free form of musicality - underscored by a dynamic and mischievous touch of Dadaism. We're not talking about abstract reflection on a vague theme here, but rather the best musical sessions in the world.Unfortunately, Paul Lemp passed away prematurely in the summer of 2015, before the Candy Bomber sessions were completed.
