Saxophonist, composer, bandleader and innovator Camilla George makes a thunderous return with her third album "Ibio-Ibio" - a rich cultural journey dedicated to her Ibibio tribe from the southeastern coast of Nigeria. The first single from the album is "Abasi Isang", featuring Sheila Maurice-Grey and Rosie Turton, an up-tempo feast of breathtaking brass, with polyrhythmic drums, guitar, keyboards and Camilla's sax effortlessly soaring between lush afrobeat and jazz melodies. Its groove and contagious yet earthy energy are a sonic release to "Abasi Isang", aka the "God of the Earth". The album is an intoxicating blend of afro-beat, hip-hop and jazz co-produced by Camilla George. Across 8 tracks, Camilla's virtuosic alto saxophone performance is accompanied by a group of some of the most talented musicians on the London jazz scene, including Daniel Casimir (bass), Shirley Tetteh (guitar), Winston Clifford (drums), Sheila Maurice-Grey (trumpet), Rosie Turton (trombone), Renato Paris (vocals), Sarah Tandy (keyboards), as well as Senegalese kora player Kadialy Kouyate, renowned American drummer Daru Jones (Jack White, Pete Rock, Talib Kweli) and Birmingham's top MC, Lady Sanity.
