When I spoke to Francis Lai about the film, I told him I needed his most beautiful themes. These are the last two themes that Francis wrote. They are absolutely moving. I asked him who he thought of for the orchestration. Francis suggested Calogero. We went to Francis's place, where he played his two compositions for him... Calogero was deeply moved. He was knocked out, touched. We got to work with Francis and Calogero. Didier Barbelivien writes the lyrics for the songs. Nicole Croisille gifted me again with her voice and her unique interpretation. I wanted to intertwine the timbres of Nicole Croisille and Calogero, which embody the perfect alliance of timelessness. Calogero confided in me that he had a theme that could perhaps fit into the film. I listened. It was a waltz, superb, that immediately found its place. Calogero was moved to reorchestrate the theme from A MAN AND A WOMAN, which takes on an absolutely incredible density.
