Melatonin - Original Soundtrack

Description

No need for iam8bit to know that sleep is a vital necessity for humans. The importance of dreams—and their impact on daily life—is a fascinating subject, but it takes a creative team to turn it into, among other things, a lo-fi rhythm game. The talented members of the aptly named Half Asleep Games are the insomniacs for the job. Their first title, Melatonin, explores the relationship between the dreams we have when we sleep and the experiences we live when we are awake. Unlike traditional rhythm games, Melatonin avoids clunky interface elements and keeps the player in the groove by pairing whimsical animations with welcoming and surprising audio cues. The result is a cool yet laborious exploration of the subconscious, fueled by an unforgettable soundtrack overflowing with bits, bops, and bips that fuel your curiosity and focus. The best way to describe this selection of songs is "cozy electronica," as if an anthropomorphized Omnichord were tucking you under the covers and reading you a gentle story to lull you to sleep. It's the kind of video game soundtrack that, frankly, demands a vinyl release, and we were happy to oblige. Here is the 2xLP Melatonin. The inventive soundtrack by Cade Phillips (with additional songs by Yotam Perel, Mothense, and Filippo Vicarelli) comes to life on two stunning lavender vinyl records, perfect for dozing off and gently drifting into dreamland. For the album cover, Elvin Budiman created artwork that evokes cozy bedrooms and the nostalgia of a late school night. Sleep well.
