Byron Lee founded the Dragonaires in 1957. For several years, the group accompanied prestigious artists such as Sam Cooke, Chuck Berry, and Ray Charles before starting their own career. In 1962, they became the torchbearers of Ska and appeared in the James Bond film Dr. No. They then flew to New York instead of the Skatalites, with the aim of promoting Ska in the United States. The success was enormous, and the group introduced Ska to the whole world.
