Bukka White, one of the most talented slide guitarists and expressive singers of the Delta Blues, recorded an impressive body of work between 1930 and 1940. This compilation presents his earliest recordings: nine 78s, as well as two tracks recorded for the Library of Congress in 1939, while he was incarcerated. Over the decades, these songs helped forge his iconic status, despite relative indifference upon their release. It was only after his rediscovery in the early 1960s, when he was in his fifties, that White's musical career truly took off. His early records began to appear on vintage blues compilations, allowing him to reach a young, new audience. From his very first concerts, Bukka quickly established himself as a major figure in the folk/blues revival.
