In 1969, Bubble Puppy released their debut album, "A Gathering of Promises," which stood out from other artists due to its vocal harmonies and a sound very similar to Cream, Hendrix, or The Who. Bubble Puppy was a psychedelic acid rock band from San Antonio, Texas, formed by Rod Prince and Roy Cox, rising from the ashes of The Bad Seeds, a popular Corpus Christi garage band consisting of singer-guitarist Rod Prince, bassist Roy Cox, and drummer Poulie Clayton, which disbanded in 1966. While the 13th Floor Elevators were the first to sound psychedelic, Bubble Puppy connected with 1970s hard rock with their 1969 hit, "Hot Smoke And Sassafras."
