Together, they offer an unprecedented look into the sonic world of this unlikely lo-fi masterpiece that became a timeless Springsteen classic. “Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition” premieres today with a never-before-heard version of “Born in the U.S.A.” (originally written at the same time as “Nebraska”), featuring Springsteen accompanied by Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent, in a trio performance from late April 1982. “We dropped the keyboards and essentially played as a trio,” Springsteen recalls. “It was kind of punk rockabilly. We were trying to bring ‘Nebraska’ into the electric world.”
