CHARITY OF NIGHT

Description

Bruce Cockburn has written over 400 songs on 35 albums over a 50-year career, 23 of which have been certified gold or platinum. He has sold over nine million copies worldwide, is a member of the Canadian Songwriter Hall of Fame, and is the recipient of 13 Juno Awards from over 30 nominations. His new album, his 20th, "The Charity Of Night" represents a departure from the folk-influenced songwriting of his previous works, and returns to his jazz-inflected style. Never before released on vinyl, this album was one of those included in the 50th Anniversary box set released in September 2020, in a limited edition and now sold out. The album has a consistent theme of reflection and memory that runs throughout, and is one of his most personal and revealing albums as Cockburn recalls the events of his past, taking stock and tackling each one. Musically, the album features Cockburn's main backing players from that era: solid bass and drums provided by Rob Wasserman and Gary Craig. Guest Gary Burton provides shimmering vibraphone on three songs, and other guests include Bonnie Raitt, Ani DiFranco, Jonatha Brooke, and Patty Larkin. Acclaimed by fans and critics, this album is an essential part of the Cockburn catalog.
