Since its inception under the name Brijean, the project of percussionist and singer-songwriter Brijean Murphy (the percussive heartbeat of bands like Mitski, Poolside, and Toro y Moi) and multi-instrumentalist producer Doug Stuart has evolved ingeniously, merging psych-pop abstraction with dance floor sensibilities. Through body and mind, rhythm and lyricism, they make sense of the world around them and the one that inhabits them. Feelings, released in 2021, celebrated introspection; Angelo, in 2022, dealt with loss, coinciding with the duo's first headlining tour, which doubled the desire to move people. Today, through the playful expanse of Macro, released on Ghostly International, Brijean explores different facets of themselves, the paradox of being alive.
