Bria Salmena’s debut solo album, *Big Dog*, chronicles a story of transformation—a deeply personal exploration of resilience and a declaration of artistic independence forged through collaboration. Long celebrated as the frontwoman of Canadian post-punk band FRIGS and as a vocalist in Orville Peck’s band, Bria Salmena culminates her artistic evolution on *Big Dog*. Anchored by her commanding voice—at turns tender, raw, and provocative—the album traverses the terrain of vulnerability and connection, marking the arrival of an artist boldly asserting herself. *Big Dog* is a record of big emotions and big ambitions. Musically, the album picks up hypnotic elements of krautrock and shimmering shoegaze, goth and darkwave palpitations, with electronic textures for a sophisticated and often unsettling sound. Amidst this expansive soundscape, Bria’s powerful lyrical imagery and magnificent voice remain the focus. Bria Salmena and Duncan Hay Jennings, with whom she co-wrote the record, enlisted Graham Walsh (Holy F**k, METZ, Debby Friday, Alvvays) and Meg Remy (of experimental pop project U.S. Girls) for the album’s production.
