BRAIN DAMAGE feat. Ras Michael (vinyl 45T)

Description

Born in 1943, Michael George Henry was raised in a Rasta community. In the mid-1960s, he created his own label, Zion Disc, with which he produced many singles, while also working for Coxsone Dodd as a studio session musician. He was also the first Rasta movement member to have his own radio show in Jamaica. Around the same time, he contributed to studio sessions alongside Bob Marley and Lee Scratch Perry at the famous Black Ark Studio. He produced numerous albums with his band, The Son of Negus, and quickly became renowned for his interpretations of traditional Nyabinghi chants and percussion. Today he lives in California, where he presides over the Marcus Garvey International Rastafari Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Of all the artists featured on Brain Damage's album, Ras Michael is the oldest, but also, and above all, the only artist who has never collaborated with anyone. This 45 rpm single is therefore a way to pay tribute to him, and thus marks his first collaboration as a solo artist.
