CIMETIERE CREOLE (2 vinyls)

Description

The promise of sugary delights and the fear of hidden chili. The contrast is pronounced, much like Bonbon Vodou... Bonbon Vodou is Oriane Lacaille and JereM, two flavors that complement each other to form one. She comes from a family of Réunionese musicians, he is the son of Lacanian psychiatrists. From France to Canada, via Réunion, the duo has given more than 150 concerts in three years. Bonbon Vodou is a confection that, from the first contact with the auditory papillae, evokes the pulsations of its refined yet pervasive rhythm. Tin drum and plastic bag hi-hat, on her unique custom-made drum kit, Oriane has honed it; with his oil-can body guitar, JereM has finely covered it with melodies. Stories in two voices, which combine, sparkle and explode. Poems, sarcasm, emotions. A joyful nostalgia, a festive sadness, like the marine cemetery in the bay of Saint-Paul, Réunion Island. The plots of land covered with multicolored flowers have replaced the stone steles. Supposedly somber, the place teems with life ready to be reborn again and again. A way of celebrating the end as a beginning, of laughing in sadness. Bitten to its core, that's where Bonbon Vodou leads. To this field of eternal rest, the starting point of this second album. On site, surrounded by musical figures from the island, the duo indulged in the subtle flavors of sega and mayola. The accordion notes of René Lacaille, Oriane's father, the voice of Danyèl Waro. But also percussion - the kayamb, of course! - and, in the local tradition, the breath of brass bands. Piers Faccini produced several tracks, but it was Jean Lamoot (Noir Désir, Bashung, Salif Keita...) who was responsible for the decisive recording and mixing work that gives Bonbon Vodou its definitive flavor, its melt-in-your-mouth texture and crunch, its sweetness and acidity. Recorded between France and the volcanic island, swept by the Indian Ocean air, the album, in both words and notes, transforms French chanson into Creole succulence. In this Creole Cemetery, Bonbon Vodou invokes hidden deities, dances with them, travels, celebrates life and the present moment, brimming with the sugar that sweetens the most bitter moments. Because, even with one foot in the grave, you can dance with the other. "BONBON VODOU REGENERATES FRENCH CHANSON BY DRAWING FROM THE VOLCANIC CREOLENESS OF REUNION..." ---TÉLÉRAMA ---. "ASTONISHING, DANCEABLE AND INTELLIGENT" --- LONGUEUR D'ONDES ---. "The rainbow of Bonbon Vodou's colorful songs..." --- LIBÉRATION ---. "A unique music, two voices in symbiosis who have intelligently crafted the recipe for this exotic candy." --- Francofans ---. "IT MELTS IN THE EARS AND SPARKLES ON THE TONGUE" ---TÉLÉRAMA ---.
