Bon Iver makes a grand return with SABLE, fABLE, his first album since 2019. It is a double album connecting the SABLE EP, released in autumn 2024, to a full-length album. The tracks from SABLE are available here for the first time in physical format. The three-track SABLE was a prologue steeped in darkness, a controlled fire paving the way for new possibilities. fABLE writes its continuation. Where SABLE was a work expressing solitude, fABLE is a helping hand. Radiant, ornate pop illuminates Justin Vernon’s voice as he focuses on a new, beautiful, and bright era. On each track, his gaze is fixed on one particular person. This is love – which means fABLE is imbued with profound clarity, intensity, and honesty. But if SABLE and fABLE are connected, it is because shadow persists, even in the brightest moments. A fable is not a fairy tale. There are moments of pure joy, trips to Spain. But fables are not based on happy endings: they are there to convey a lesson. As the album draws to a close, Justin Vernon recognizes the importance of patience and commitment.
