Bob Azzam And The Great Expectation

Description

The end of the 60s saw a flood of all kinds of unique psychedelic albums that exchange for a fortune on the collectors' market. But the self-titled 1969 album by Bob Azzam and The Great Expectation stands out clearly. First, it contains one of the best drum solos of all time on their cover of the classic by Alvin Toussaint, "Rain Rain (Go Away)." Next, their version of "The Last Time" is probably the most psychedelic Stones cover ever heard, a frenzy of fuzz guitar, electric sitar, rumbling piano, and throbbing bass, punctuated by soaring vocal harmonies à la Left Banke. The rest of the album is incredibly eclectic, ranging from the tropicalism of "Berimbau" to Beatles-style covers of Les Reed's tracks "Mr. Lovin' Luggage Man" and "One Little Packet of Cigarettes." Not to mention the voice of Egyptian singer Wadie George. "Bob" Azzam pays tribute to his Middle Eastern roots with "Mon Amour" - A record imbued with a touch of electronic strangeness reminiscent of Lothar and the Hand People or Silver Apples - First reissue in all formats - Remastered for vinyl - Fire Orange pressing
