Description
Lemon Jefferson was born in the autumn of 1893 in Couchman, Texas. Blind from birth and the youngest of seven children, Jefferson began a career as an itinerant musician at a young age, performing a repertoire of prison songs, blues, laments, and Texas dances from Texas to Chicago. Known for being the first blues singer to record "race records" (records specifically recorded for the African-American public), Jefferson also recorded religious songs under the pseudonym Deacon L.J.
